A 31 year old woman from KwaZulu-Natal has given birth to conjoined twins. The newly born babies are conjoined at the chest and abdomen. The mother has conceded that she only attended ante-natal classes once. Conjoined twins result from incomplete division of the embryonic disk. The occurrence is estimated at about 1 in 250 000 live births. For more on the story we are now joined by KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo from our Durban studios.
